day 28

i would let my future students use black board to help provide them with basic background information, as a starting point for a research paper. For instance, If I were teaching The Scarlet Letter, and assigned a three page paper, I would let them use Wikipedia to learn about early colonial America so as to provide them with a basis for their paper. I would not allow them to site Wikipedia, because my goal would be to prepare them for college and in college we don't site Wikipedia.

Day 27

here's a link to the website I chose to validate.

The website is not a credible source of information because the tree octopus is clearly a fictitious creature. The domain is .net, making it a personal site, and the identity of the author is not clearly identified. There are no reviews or authentications posted by experts. And in one of the photos you can clearly tell that the tree octopus sited is a fake stuffed animal.

Day 26

Today I learned then when searching on the internet for information it is important to be cautious becoming misinformed. When viewing a website check it's domain to determine whether or not it is a .com, .org, or .not. If it's a .com the website is selling something. If it's a . org, the website is representative of an organization and will present the organization perspective. If it is a .net, it is a personal site that will contain the opinion of whoever's site it belongs to. This knowledge allows me to promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility through digital etiquette responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information.

Day 25

In my opinion Mimio Smartboards are too complicated and cumberson a device. The same results can be accomplished with a simple powerpoint or less technologically sophisticated, a chalk board. When my group tried to get the smartboard to work it took us almost two class periods to get it to work. In my experience the more sophisticated and more expensive the technology, the greater the margin of error.

Day 24

Working with a Mimio Smartboard allows teachers to exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. Teachers demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations. Teachers also model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning.

Day 23

The SMART Board interactive whiteboard supports interaction and conversation in the classroom; it helps with the presentation of new cultural and linguistic elements.

One teacher stated that the smarboard engaged their primary students in literacy learning. The teacher was able to interact with the class, demmonstrate, model, and manipulate what was on the board by touch. The teacher was not confined to, or focused on, a computer that separated them for the class.

Day 22

Creating a webquest allows a teacher to create media products; it allows a teacher to understand and utilize the most appropriate media creation tools, characteristics, and conventions. Creating a webquest also allows a student to understand and effectively utilize the most appropriate expressions and interpretations in diverse multi-cultural environments.

Day 21 Webquest made using Google Sites

Webquest

As a future educator creating a webquest helps me to customize and personalize learning activities to address students' diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources.

Day 20

Here's a link to my webquest

Mostly I changed the images on this Webquest to be more interesting and reflect more of the beautiful art and sculpture associated with Greek Mythology. This meets the rubric standard stating that appropriate and thematic graphic elements are used to make visual connections that contribute to the understanding of concepts ideas and relationships. Differences in type, size and color are used well and consistently. The CSO's met by this webquest are: RLA.O.12.1.07 demonstrate knowledge of and evaluate literary devices. - achetypes-allegory-antithesis-pace-satire-cadence-scansion-flashback-foreshadowing-

This assignment will allow the fifth grader to incorporate feedback effectively which is a valuable life and career skill that he will need as she advances through both his or her education and lilfe.

Blog for Tuesday 16th

When I was in kindergarten I was enrolled in a program called Writing to Read. The program involved the use of computer software, familiarity with a keyboard, and one one reading instruction to promote better reading skills. The ISTE standard met by this program was 2-b: Writing to Read developed a technology-enriched environment that enabled all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress.

Today we skyped a question and answer session with 5th graders wherein we gave them advice on writing an autobiography. The ISTE standard met by the video ocnference was 3C. We communinicated relevant information and ideas efectively to students using a variety of digital age media and formats.

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Day 5, February 2

Today we used google docs to create two question surveys. We then took the results of the surveys, fed the data through Graphbuilder.com, created a graph and posted our results on blogger. This exercise proved most stimulating to the imagination. I can now use google docs as a means of creating online quizes and in conjuntcion with a graph construction softwarre post results to said quizes. This facilitates ISTE standard 2C because I can now customize and personalize a learning activity so as to address a student's diverse learning style, working strategy, and ability to use digital tools and resources.

Day 4

Today we joined Web 2.0 and Schools-Discussion on Facebook. Seeing as how face book is a large web wide interactive social network that most of us were already apart of I feel that the ISTE standard met that day was 4-C. The class promoted and offered a model of digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information in that we watched a video debate on the values of social networks in the advancement of academic skills and then commented on what our opinions were.

Day 3 January 26th, Classroom 2.0

Classroom 2.0 is an online digital classroom in which educators can communicate with their colleagues so as to share ideas, and collaborate on knowledge and techniques that they find work for them in their classrooms. For example Janine Ragan replied to Jane Leonardo's discussion 'Einstein Never Used Flash Cards' where she made the statement that children learn basic math principles by interacting with common objects on their own unsupervised. For me this was an innovative idea. This discussion is an example of ISTE Standard 1-a in that it promotes and supports creative and innovative thinking. Classroom 2.0 on a whole meets standard 1-d in that it is a model of collaborative knowledge that constructs and engages learning with colleagues in a virtual environment.

Day 2 January 21st, Doc. Resume

The ISTE standards met by this assignment were 1-b & C and 2-a. I had to go to google docs, upload a resume and post a link to it on my blog. I was engaged in a problem solving exercise using digital tools and resources. The assignment involved collaborative tools in that it required me to use my knowledge both g-mail and blogger. Upon reflection this was a relevant learning experience which involved digital tools and resources and I now feel competent to instruct students on how to use google docs and can conceptualize an assignment where students engage in the classroom through a technological means. Google docs can be used as a way for students to record and track completed assignments online in a resume form.

Day 1 January 19 2010

On our first day I set up a gmail account and blogger. This is an example of 2a of the iste standards where digital tools and rescources were incorporated to promote student learning and creativity. Once I saw how gmail and blogger worked and used them to complete an assignment I felt more comfortable with them as resources. I began thinking of ways in which to incorporate these tools into a High School english class. For example blogger could be used to promote a discussion of a book a class is reading.

A Project I'm Working On

Heres a link to an online comic that I'm currently working on. I'm doing it as an exercise in both writing and sequential art. It's my hope some day to develop a system of note taking that utilizes sequential art so students can become more engaged in the class room. Here's the link http://www.dansdoodles.com/
